Advertisement - Relax Wax

My advertisement...

 Relax Wax – analysis of homemade advertisement
The advertisement – that I have produced myself – is advertising for a fictive wax-product called “Relax Wax”. I chose to draw a manga boy with the manga-drawing’s characteristic spiky hair that I have painted in warm, brown colors. The manga boy’s big, staring eyes are also kept in the same brown colors, and his skin is light. He is wrapping a blue blanket or cloak around him, and I have chosen to do this because blue gives fresh, cool associations. It is a “cold” color, and the product, “Relax Wax”, have I also painted blue – as well as the slogan and the product-name.
The manga boy is placed in the lower right corner, and he is turning his head away but is still looking at the viewer. His eyes are moreover mysterious and have shadows in the iris.
The fact that I have used a manga figure is very important. When I am using intertextual references peoples mind are set at some other things than just the advertisement. In this case people will think of the cartoons and maybe Japan.
The product itself is placed in the lower left corner with the name turned against the viewer. Besides the middle of the picture, right around the golden section and written in conspicuous black, there is a question that is supposed to be an eye-catcher. “Bad hair day?” says it, and underneath it is the product’s name placed with a thin font and in a dark (but fresh) blue color. Underneath that it says “– Never again!” and this text is written in light blue and is encircled by a black line.
The intended audience is youngsters, which the manga drawing also indicates. The advertisement wants the audience to think that it is cool to use “Relax Wax” and therefore have I chosen to use just a few colors. Everyone has seen a manga cartoon before and therefore everyone will have some association connected to seeing this advertisement.
